Fifa will, in partnership with Sony, test 4k capture of this year's World Cup games, using 12 cameras, three more than in the tests made in the Confederations Cup last year. According to the Japanese brand, the official film of the Cup will be produced with the use of 4K technology, in addition to three games that will be produced in full in this quality.
According to the director of the football entity's TV division, Niclas Ericson, the games held at Maracanã will be used for testing, for the size of the stadium, which facilitates the placement of extra cameras, for being the headquarters of the final and for hosting the International Broadcasting Center. In the Confederations Cup the tests were done in the Mineirão.
In addition to capturing the images, Fifa will have graphics and narrators unique to the games in 4k. But there is still no definition of broadcasters in the world that want to broadcast live games. "We are negotiating, perhaps someone in Asia does", said Ericson, who participated in the session at MipTV in Cannes. He explained that the rights were negotiated to include 4k already, that is, there is no extra cost in that regard. The decision to broadcast live is essentially technological and production costs.
In all stadiums of the Cup, Sony will install technology demonstration totems where visitors can watch small excerpts and a trailer of what will be the official video of the World Cup that will be distributed online by the company's 4K video platform. Sony presents during the 2014 NAB Show in Las Vegas, part of the cutting and editing equipment that will be used in Brazil in the coming months with a football game as an example.
The coverage of NAB Show 2014, direct from Las Vegas, has support from Adjori/SC, Bragnagnolo and Zanardo Group.
