The third annual edition of Google Science Fair was released on January 30. The competition hopes to find the next generation of talented scientists and engineers.
The competition is the result of the partnership between Google, CERN (European Nuclear Research Centre), the Lego Group, National Geographic and Scientific American. In a statement, Sam Peter, from the Google Science Fair team, invites students between 13 and 18 years of age to participate in the online science competition.
The prizes include a $50,000 Google scholarship, a trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic expeditions, experiences at CERN, Google or the Lego Group, as well as access to Scientific American digital archives for the winner's school for a year. Scientific American will also award a $50,000 award for the project that makes some practical contribution that addresses a social, environmental or health challenge.
Students can register their projects in 13 languages until 03:59 on March 1 (Time of Brasilia). In June, the 90 regional finalists will be announced. Then, the judges will select the top 15 projects, which will be taken to Google’s Mountain View headquarters in California, for the final event on September 23.
