Many of our team received a Google e-mail this morning confirming the end of Orkut, starting on September 30. According to the search giant, "YouTube, Blogger and Google+ took off", which led them to make the decision to focus on them, and kill Orkut.

"Goodbye to Orkut
"After ten years of online social conversations and connections, we decided it's time to start us Fire Orkut.. Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities emerging in every corner of the world. The growth of these communities has surpassed Orkut and so we have decided to concentrate our energies and resources to make these other social platforms even more incredible for all users.
"Orkut will no longer be available after September 30, 2014. Until then, we'll keep Orkut in the air, without any major changes, so you can handle the transition. You can export your profile information, community messages and photos using the Google Takeout (available until September 2016). An archive with all public communities will be available online as of September 30, 2014. If you do not want your name or posts to be included in the community file, you can permanently remove Orkut from your Google account. For more details, please visit the Help Center.
