Your brand in the context of tablets and smartphones

World Column Connected in Newspaper Image of the Island(Year 16, ed. 281)

Until May this year, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) registered 255 million cellulars in Brazil. The number represents more than one device per inhabitant. You may even be dissatisfied with your operator, facing daily problems with interrupted calls, SMS you send and the recipient does not receive, data package unavailable at all times, but if we remember that 20 years ago having a landline at home was a luxury and that, on the street, we needed to use the phone calls to call someone, today we witnessed the mobile phone paradise.

Better: since the invention of smartphones, but especially from the day Steve Jobs, in 2007, took out a device called iPhone, the technology used in mobile phones advances rapidly. Hardware is no longer an impediment to creating faster and more robust phones like computers. Photos, videos, cameras, GPS, games, digital TV, video-calling, multi-core processors, higher RAM memory capacity etc. are some of the features that devices offer nowadays.

One aspect in this paradise, however, develops much slower than fiber optic cabling (the 4G comes!) or the speed of processors: the perfect navigability and usability of smartphones sites. In the last decade, a “beautiful” site was one made with a beautiful animation at the opening, produced by a program called Flash (Adobe). The problem is that the mobile browsers could not “read” these animations. Result? The site was inaccessible. The solution? The site “wap.”, which reduced the home page, as beautiful as it was, to a list of boring links. In 2007, when releasing the iPhone, which does not support Flash, Jobs predicted that Adobe's program was doomed, to give way to a language that would fulfill the same function without impediments: HTML5. He was right: A few months ago, Adobe announced that she gave up Flash on mobile phones.

Now your website – whether institutional, blog or e-commerce – can work on both PC and Mac as well as on your mobile with iOS, Android or Windows Phone operating system. The union of HTML5 and other website development languages allows even purchases to be made on your site from a mobile phone. Thus, the same experience of navigability that the user has before a 21-inch monitor, with mouse and keyboard, can be enjoyed on the screen (increasingly) touchscreen of smartphones – and, of course, tablets. In a universe of 255 million devices, this functionality is essential for your company.

An alternative for those who want to have their brand in the cellular environment in a more sophisticated and interactive way is the development of an application. Instead of the user having to open the mobile browser, type the URL or access the bookmark list, it can simply touch the icon of your company's application: there it will have access to the content in a 100% optimized way for browsing the smaller touchscreen screen.

NationalVOX has been using HTML5 for over a year, always aligned with the latest trends in site creation and development. It also has know-how for the creation and development of apps for iOS (Apple) and Android (Google).
