Video gives insights about interactivity trends

Connecting (Full Film) from Bassett & Partners on Vimeo.

Looking at the world today, we see that everything is moving quickly. So quickly that the possibility of talking on the phone in a moving car was, until recently, an incredible wonder. Now, we're furious when the cell phone signal cuts during the transmission of a HD video or a four-inch touch screen, just because we're 50 meters deep in the subway.

Connecting is a short documentary by Bassett & Partners and Microsoft, which explores how our lives (and our gadgets) have changed and how much it will change making the world even more connected. It is 18 minutes long, and has very interesting interviews, with designers from Twitter, Arduino, Frog, Estame, Microsoft and Nokia. What is crazy, even with the “magic” of the edition, is that many of these talented observations about the trends of interactive design eventually connect to each other. Here are some of the following conclusions:

· Our phones will require a lot of attention, damaging our real experiences.

· Analog metaphors are making less sense on digital devices.

· We are waiting for new paradigms to experiment media, such as text on screens.

· All experiments should be fluid and flexible already

· You should not just try to understand a product. You should try to understand your connection network.

· All our information feeds on something bigger than ourselves, a “super organism” or “colony” of digital information.

When you mix all these ideas it is possible to detect some dichotomies. For example, how do you design a product to be part of a network if they are having a life of their own and changing things? These are difficult questions to answer, but they will probably have to be answered.
