WhatsApp launches the payout function within the application

WhatsApp is the most popular social messaging network in the country with 1.5 million users. Not by chance, Facebook, owner of the app, chose Brazil to launch a novelty: the WhatsApp Pay!

Already available, the new feature is being gradually released by the app in both the common version and Business. Allows financial transactions such as payments and transfers to be made quickly and safely within WhatsApp.

Following a widely used model of fast and digital payments, the app promises to change the lives of people and small businesses through practicality.

Payments are activated by Facebook Pay. Transfers and payments have protection by various security layers, such as Facebook PIN Pay or biometrics on devices that possess the feature.

How it works

Everything is done in the virtual environment to what WhatsApp users are already used to. In the chat window, whether with a friend or relative, or with a store account, you can make transactions with few clicks.

The first step to be able to use the functionality is to register your payment information on Facebook Pay.

This prior step is mandatory for data to be saved in the network database, even where information is recorded for collecting sponsored links, Ads on Facebook and Instagram itself.

After registering, the rest of the process is automatic.

To make payment or transfer, simply insert a six-digit PIN code to confirm your identity as the holder of payment data.

Depending on the smartphone model, PIN can be associated with biometrics, without entering the code.

Transfers from person to person can be made only with debit cards. The user can send up to R $ 1 thousand per transaction and receive 20 transactions per day, but with a global limit of R $ 5 thousand per month.

For now, only customers of Bank of Brazil, Nubank and Sicredi can send or receive payments. But the idea is to increase partnerships with other financial institutions in the country, in an open business model.

The money is transferred to the bank account associated with the contact debit card to which the user has made the transaction. You can only receive the amount after adding a debit card issued by participating banks.

It is worth noting that you must accept payment within two days and, if the user does not, he will return to the sender. On WhatsApp Business, you need to create a Cielo account or connect an existing account of the company to receive payments for sales.

All payments will be processed by Cielo, one of the major companies in Brazil, widely known in the market.

Is it costing you?

For the user with personal profile there is no cost. The companies will need to pay a fee. Only transactions within Brazil and in reals are allowed and consumers are exempt from fees when making transfers or purchases.

By linking an existing Cielo account or creating a new one and enabling Facebook Pay, small and medium-sized companies using the WhatsApp Businesscan request and receive unlimited payments in credit or debit, offer refunds and get support 24 hours a day.

Companies pay a fixed fee of 3.99% per transaction. Cielo rates range from 2.39% (debit) to 4.99% (credit).

And security...

WhatsApp Pay does not use point-to-point encryption, as is the case in the exchange of messages for the app, as banks need to receive information about each payment.

However, WhatsApp ensures that it has an advanced data storage system and encryption that collects card numbers on a separate, secure network.

Users receive a confirmation code from WhatsApp, the Facebook PIN Pay and the verification code.

To use the resource safely, the recommendation is not to share this information with anyone, even if it is a trusted friend, family member or company.

If the number is cloned, some criminal could pass through the receiver. If you receive messages from a suspicious phone, it is recommended to block and report the number.

To avoid cloning, the best way is to activate the two-step check option, which can be accessed in the Settings menu in the upper right corner of the application screen. This prevents someone from accessing the WhatsApp account on another device without entering the PIN previously defined.

If the phone is lost or stolen, to avoid problems add blocking measures to the device itself, with passwords, fingerprint or facial recognition. This way, you will need to confirm your identity whenever you open the device.

What are the advantages of WhatsApp Pay?

According to WhatsApp, the motivation to launch the resource in Brazil, one of the largest markets on the platform in the world, is to encourage the digitization of small businesses in the country, and to support the financial recovery of these businesses.

For users the key word of the payment function is the ease to perform financial transactions within the message exchange application.

Practicality can be another benefit. While demanding an account at one of the partner institutions, imagine transferring money to someone using the WhatsApp chat window!

The process is fast and very functional, dispensing the use of bank applications, especially for those dealing with lower values and transactions with people known, without the need for more formal processes.

As we have seen in the post, the authentication factors and requirement of a numerical PIN already ensure the security necessary to make the transactions. This restricted environment authorization acts almost as a credit card security code, being a function that protects without delaying the procedure.

In terms of agility, WhatsApp Pay can solve some everyday needs from day to day. You need some bill? Just transfer the money on time using WhatsApp. The speed of the transaction makes everything more convenient.
