To the top and forward: the evolution of e-commerce in Brazil

Online sales help to warm the Brazilian economy. Even after the pandemic, e-commerce shows a breath to grow and increase the revenue of companies and businesses.

A survey of the platform for online store creation Cloudmshop, found that only in January 2023, small and medium-sized companies made R$ 237.5 million in e-commerce, a 33% increase compared to last year, when they registered R$ 177.7 million.

The same research also showed that the fashion sector led the ranking of sales with slack and earned R $ 88.5 million, a value far from the other segments. Then came Health & Amp; Beauty (R$ 19.5 million), Accessories (R$ 18.5 million), Home & Amp; Garden (R$ 10.5 million) and Jewelry (R$ 8.2 million). The best-selling items were school clothes, sunglasses and perfumes.

As for the means of payment, the credit card remains the preferred one and is being used in 50% of the orders paid. However, the PIX stood out due to an 80% increase in its use, leaving 14.5% of payments in 2022 to 26% in January 2023.

Omnichannel continues to be trending

What is omnichannel retail?

Omnichannel retail is a trade strategy that creates a perfect customer experience on multiple purchasing platforms. As consumers and buyers move between physical and digital spaces, they experience consistent and organic conversation with the brand, because each point of contact is connected and their data is always unified.

Omnichannel retail contrasts with single channel retail or so-called multichannel retail. Some companies use a single platform, operating a physical or online store. Others offer a multi-channel experience, allowing customers to shop through several separate channels. But since these platforms are not connected to each other, they often isolate the customer experience.

In the omnichannel system, companies take multichannel experiences forward, uniting all channels and creating a user experience without friction. This connection keeps customers involved and moving towards a sale. Not by chance, the big retailers have been betting on it for years and today you can buy a multitude of products online and withdraw from a physical store on the same day.

The omnichannel journey expands

With fewer people engaging with a single channel when making a purchase, the customer journey evolved into an omnichannel experience. There are several ways that omnichannel retail is crossing digital and physical borders:

  • Buy online and withdraw at the store. Consumers usually take advantage of the options of buying online, withdrawing from the store and some stores also offer a non-contact withdrawal experience with shop vendors and shopkeepers. Studies indicate that up to 60% of abandoned carts are due to customers who face unexpected shipping costs, taxes or fees. Offering customers the chance to withdraw their items personally can encourage buyers to complete their purchases.
  • Buy at the store and get paid at home. Customers are also buying items in the store and sending them to their homes. This can be beneficial for items that are difficult to carry, such as large appliances or furniture. Buyers like the convenience of delivery and brands can reduce general logistics expenses, as they do not need to worry about product stock.
  • Buy online and return it to the store. Customers appreciate the option of returning online shopping to the store. A recent survey found that 61% of customers prefer to return online purchases to a retail location.

Companies are recognizing the importance of expanding their omnichannel experience by investing in online and physical spaces. The pandemic accelerated the digital transformation of interactions with customers and the benefits that emerged proved so popular that many brands felt inclined to continue with multichannel sales.

Good marketing practices to sell more online

Even with all these numbers, data and projections encouraging entrepreneurs to invest in online sales, expanding a business to e-commerce requires good digital marketing. And if your company is already in this environment, there is always something to improve to increase sales:

  • Be careful and attentive with regard to product images and descriptions, including tutorials and spaces for questions
  • Provide security for multiple options payment
  • Focus on visual identity, interface and ease of use of the purchasing environment.
  • Ease contact and service, with channels such as chat, whatsapp and email marketing/CRM tools

I've separated some tips so your audience can buy more and be true to your brand. Check it out:

Use and abuse social media

Social networks dominate the digital universe and platforms like Instagram and Facebook are efficient tools to disseminate your business products or services. Being on the networks means designing the company's image, increasing the number of stakeholders and potential customers, engaging their target audience and, mainly, generating sales.

Social networking helps promote sales, provided you know how to efficiently use your e-commerce product links. In addition, you need to make shopping easier and often a DM conversation on Instagram or LinkedIn becomes a business opportunity. Social networks, if well used, bring visitors, leads and customers to brands.

Email marketing and automation

An online store is unthinkable without an inbound marketing strategy aligned for sales. Therefore, the use of email marketing shooting and automation tools becomes important for companies to generate leads and conquer customers through the relationship.

Create emails with content that engage leads on a shopping journey and automate segmentations such as customers, cart dropouts, chekouts and newsletters with products and offers for your base. Automation favors marketing management and improves the sales process, helping in the search for more sales and profit increase.

Market Places

A trend in the world e-commerce is marketplaces, such as Amazon and Free Market, which in addition to exposing products and generating sales by the platform itself, become a way to pass confidence and support to the consumer.

The increase in the use of these platforms is a great alternative for the digital entrepreneur to make a smaller initial investment, diversify their campaigns and create new sales opportunities. We have already talked about this article about the advantages of having an online store at Mercadoshops.

Recurrence subscription services

If we go further to analyze the personalization of the experience with a growing sales format, subscription businesses have become popular and gaining the taste of consumers.

It is when the buyer pays a monthly amount to the company to receive some product recurrently in his home every given period. It also has the option of signing predetermined products, and also the signature of boxes containing products differentiated at each delivery, which conquers the public by the imaginary and anxiety of surprise.

This is a strategy that generates revenue recurrence, enabling revenue visibility to assist in business decision making.

Loyalty programmes

If it's already a big challenge to attract, can you imagine keeping the customer? That is why loyalty programs are on the rise and the consumer is aware of where he can receive more advantage by buying and saving for the next orders.

There are custom cashback platforms on the market for all types of companies, offering advantages in partnership with suppliers, loyalty to customers who like rewards as purchasing incentives.

Conclusion

Many people still think that working with e-commerce is like selling in physical stores. But it's not like that! You will need above all a good site prepared for sales or marketplace platform, as already stated and that make sales possible without direct contact with the consumer.

Keep in mind that online shopping needs to be done in an easy and automatic manner. The consumer should feel at home, with doubts taken, ease in purchase, efficient service and speed in delivery.
